About the Course

These four sessions are an unthreatening entry into adjusting your mindset towards food. We will practice a mindset of curiosity towards our eating patterns (instead of criticism). Curiosity dispels perfectionism and helps us find easy steps to change.

 

The four habits we will practice:

  • Notice when you eat in the day.

  • Describe your emotions when you want to eat.

  • Identify some of the thoughts connected to your emotions.

  • Understand what you may need other than food.

 

The four skills we will practice:


1. Separating hunger from emotion

 Describe what hunger feels like and notice how this feels different from an emotionally-heightened state.


2. Checking in with your emotions 

Practice a mindset of acceptance towards your emotions (instead of criticism).


3: Create a flexible eating routine

Create a plan that you can adjust so that it works for you. Learn to relax rigid ideas so that you continue to make progress towards your food goals.


4: Recover quicker from a setback in your eating plan 

Practice returning to your eating plan instead of being stuck in a feeling of guilt and failure.


Here are 7 questions that can help individuals assess whether they might benefit from a course on unwinding emotional eating:


  1. Do you often eat in response to your emotions rather than physical hunger?

  2. Have you noticed that certain feelings (like stress, sadness, or boredom) trigger your urge to snack or overeat?

  3. Do you use food as a reward or comfort during tough times?

  4. After eating, do you frequently feel guilt or regret about your food choices?

  5. Have you tried to change your eating habits in the past but found it challenging to stick with it?

  6. Do you find it difficult to differentiate between emotional and physical hunger?

  7. Do you often find yourself eating mindlessly or while distracted (e.g., watching TV, working)?
